Crazy, Not Insane (2020)

MUST SEE!

Safari (2016)

Kontraverzni dokumentarac Ulrich Seidl-a, autora još zajebanijeg Im Keller (2014). Filozofija turističkog lova po afričkim savanama.

"Ulrich Seidls follow wealthy tourists going on safari to kill often endangered species. Some determinedly searching for trophies, others to enjoy. Even if every prey comes at a price., they always find a way to legitimize their own actions."

The Witness (2015)

Director:
James D. Solomon

"Bill Genovese's decade-long journey to unravel the truth about the mythic death and little-known life of his sister, Kitty, who was reportedly stabbed in front of 38 witnesses and became the face of urban apathy. THE WITNESS begins in 2004 when The Times questions its original story: the number of witnesses, what they observed, the number of attacks. None was more affected by the story than Bill. He vowed not to be like the 38, volunteered for Vietnam, and lost both legs. What if Kitty's mythic story is an urban myth? Breaking his family's half-century of silence, Bill seeks to find the truth confronting the witnesses, the killer, their families and his own. THE WITNESS is about bearing witness, loss and forgiveness, and what we owe each other."

Mind of a Rampage Killer (2013)

"What makes a person walk into a theater or a church or a classroom full of students and open fire? What combination of circumstances compels a human being to commit the most inhuman of crimes? Can science in any way help us understand these horrific events and provide any clues as to how to prevent them in the future?"

OC87: The Obsessive Compulsive, Major Depression, Bipolar, Asperger's Movie (2010)

Directors:
Bud Clayman
Glenn Holsten

"Can you make a movie while having mental illness? Bud Clayman is doing it. Will making a documentary about your mental illness change your life?

Soon after college, mental illness interrupted Bud Clayman's dreams of a filmmaking career. Thirty years later, he's making the movie of his life. A story with universal relevance, OC87 is a wildly original film about pain and vulnerability, empowerment, and Bud's quest for belonging.

Throughout his youth, Bud's future was filmmaking. After college in Philadelphia, he headed to Hollywood in search of a break. Instead, he had a breakdown. As mental illness struck, it stuck. When distress and isolation set in, the diagnoses followed. For eight years, Bud lived in a therapeutic community.

Without waiting for his illness to vanish, Bud has reclaimed his quest as a filmmaker. As his camera chronicles the ups and downs of recovery, we also see the experience of what he calls "the fight inside my head." Behind the lens, a parallel journey unfolds as Bud the Director grapples with the challenges of making an incisive, highly personal documentary—a movie that he believes will transform his life.

When problems hit the fan, Bud sometimes feels defeated. More often, he draws strength and skills from therapy, humor, and relationships. Even so, he feels different, and the stigma of mental illness is fierce.

Meanwhile, directing this documentary film stretches Bud in ways that ultimately recast his quest. From the shadows of suffering, a portrait of imperfect courage emerges—a testament to acceptance, change, and hope.

The LA Times hailed OC87 as "uniquely inspiring." The New York Times called it "moving, penetrating" and The New York Post said, "it's easy to cheer his ultimate triumph.""

The Fear of 13 (2015)

Director:
David Sington

MUST SEE!

The Hell Of Not Being Able to Leave the Internet, As Captured By Werner Herzog

"As he set out to make his new documentary about the internet, Lo and Behold: Reveries of a Connected World (born out of, of all internet-y things, a sponsored web content deal), Werner Herzog considered traveling to China to document one of the country's most famous treatment centers for internet addicts—"a real toughest-of-tough boot camp." But he decided against it, in part because subtitles would have gotten in the way, and, as he told TechCrunch, he wanted to "stay more within our culture, and within our language." But it's a near universal culture and language, the internet, as evidenced by the residents at a treatment center in the west, who describe their former lives in thrall to the screen.

Herzog recounts stories like that of the South Korean couple who were so lost in a video game that their baby died. The internet security and assurance firm behind the film, NetScout, was hands off, Herzog says, with the exception of one part, in which someone recounts some horrifying comments by trolls. Herzog agreed it should go.

There's a lot more that didn't make the cut, including all the footage shot for the project's original manifestation, a web series of talking heads, but Herzog is, unlike most of us internet addicts, a seeming master of focus and slayer of distractions. That doesn't mean he won't get lost down a rabbit hole, or that he doesn't like a good tangent (and there are some good ones in the movie).

But part of the art of his filmmaking and his editor Joe Bini's editing, is knowing how and when to dig deep, and how and when to pull back. In the scene with the troll comments, Herzog politely asks a family—a modern image of suburbia married with Grant Wood gothic—how their daughter's car crash scene photos became a global meme, and made them victims in a campaign of lulz-fuelled harassment. “I have always believed that the internet is a manifestation of the Antichrist,” the girl’s mother says, without hesitation.

We're looking at something weird, and complicated, and sometimes dark, and it's hard to look away."

Im Keller (In the Basement) (2014)

Director:
Ulrich Seidl

Opet zajebano, a? Svako od nas čuva barem jednu "slatku tajnu" koju nikada nikome nije otkrio. Serem?

The neighbors they adored him
For his humor and his conversation
Look underneath the house there
Find the few living things
Rotting fast in their sleep of the dead
Twenty-seven people, even more
They were boys with their cars, summer jobs
Oh my God...

And in my best behavior
I am really just like him
Look beneath the floorboards
For the secrets I have hid...

Kinky & very creepy. MUST SEE!

IMDB

"The basement in Austria is a place of free time and the private sphere. Many Austrians spend more time in the basement of their home than in their living room, which often is only for show. In the basement they actually indulge their needs, their hobbies, passions and obsessions. But in our unconscious, the basement is also a place of darkness, a place of fear, a place of human abysses."

Eric Johnson,
Gina Levy

Mama i sin se gudraju. Divota. Porodična idila. :)

"This less-than-feature-length documentary chronicles the endless cycle of addiction perpetrated by a mother and son living in a squalid tenement in San Francisco. 22-year-old Tony and his mother Stephanie are both drug addicts: Although he'll take whatever comes along, her substance of choice is crack cocaine, and she demands that her son provide her with some. As they navigate their respective addictions, each comes close to overdosing just before they're evicted from their apartment."

The Nightmare (2015)

Director:
Rodney Ascher

"Rodney Ascher directs this documentary about those suffering from sleep paralysis. The feature interviews eight affected people and uses expert testimonies to shed light on the condition which immobilises sufferers while they are suspended in a transitional state between being awake and asleep but are still fully aware of their surroundings. Accompanying symptoms include the appearance of terrifying hallucinatory figures, referred to as shadow men, that victims are physically unable to fight off and other disturbing visions. Sufferers discuss their various experiences of the condition and how they try to combat the afflictions on a daily basis."

The Summit (2012)

Director:
Nick Ryan

"In August of 2008, 22 climbers from several international expeditions converged on High Camp of K2, the last stop before the summit of the most dangerous mountain on Earth. 48 hours later, eleven had been killed or simply vanished into thin air. Like a horror movie come-to-life, it was as if the mountain began stealing lives, one climber at a time.

One such climber was the fun-loving, friendly Ger McDonnell, the first Irishman to summit K2. Faced with a moral dilemma after finding three climbers tangled and struggling in K2's perilous "death zone", Ger defied the climber's code and attempted to help his fellow climbers descend. This is as much Ger's story as it is an homage to the fearsome power of nature."

Boston Beatdown: See the World Through Our Eyes - Volume II (2004)

Director:
Ronin Morris

"From the first punch to the last chord," Volume II delivers a non-stop, in your face, visual and auditory glimpse into the dark and violent world of underground hardcore and punk rock. Featuring live performances and interviews from such bands as Blood for Blood, Death Before Dishonor, and Righteous Jams, and featuring never-before-seen footage from bands such as Wrecking Crew, In My Eyes and Ten Yard Fight, this sequel DVD has, in many eyes, already proven itself to be the hardest and most graphic look at the hardcore scene ever. Backed with exclusive interviews by founding members of Boston's notorious F.S.U. gang and scored by a soundtrack of some of Boston's hardest music, Volume II, tells the story and history of Boston hardcore from past until present."

The camera follows the protagonists in the village over a period of a year. The natives, whose daily routines have barely changed over the last centuries, keep living their lives according to their own cultural traditions. The expressive pictures are accompanied by original sound bites quoting the villagers."

Goths Make Better Lovers (2003)

Runtime: 9 min

"A short film about the love too miserable to speak its name. Goths Make Better Lovers asks why do Goths always have boyfriends?. Goths, so often the victims of wry asides, mild pity or open scorn have much to teach their more colourful bretheren when it comes to affairs of the heart. Because Goths always appear to be in a relationship - and obtusely, these relationships appear to be happier than the non-Goth kind."
