"This documentary is a deeply intelligent dissection of the 20th century's most famous Surrealist artist Salvador Dali and the influence of his art by the realm of all sciences and ologies, which fascinated him. For example, Dali's obsession with physicist Albert Einstein's Theory of Relativity influenced his famous painting of a trio of melting clocks entitled "The Persistence of Memory" (which he later denied and instead said was influenced by the effect of Camembert cheese melting in the sun). Dali's rebuttal was "Universal time exists, all things and is thus irrelevant." Sexuality and symbolism, psychology and mysticism, influenced Dali's art, as did Sigmund Freud's psychological theories. The paranoid critical method, which Dali actually theorized, is "delirium interpretation" aka hallucination. In other words, what you think you see in life is not necessarily the real. Heavy, yet obvious once you think about it.

A prolific writer as well as a voracious reader of books regarding the nature of all realms of the sciences, sparked especially by the Atomic Age which began in the late 1940s, affected Dali's art to the high point of near-obsession. During the mid-1950s, religion became mixed into the picture. "I believe in God but I have no faith, Mathematics and sciences tell me that God must exist but I don't believe it. Watson and Crick's discovery, dissection and illustration of DNA spurred Dali's art to another level altogether. "The only legitimate structure today is the molecular structure of deoxyribonucleic acid." Hi, genetics!

The scope of Dali's influences, as well as those who influenced, his contemporaries and predecessors are documented here. Even if you are not into scientific theory, you'll like the footage of Dali and his fantastic signature mustache in interview footage. When the film enters into Dali's status in the '60s and '70s, his pop stardom begins to take form elevating him to rock star status. Four dimensional space and computer illustrations as well as the catastrophe theory were the last scientific influences in Dali's art at the end of his life. Never mind the fact that his art and creative process are mind-blowingly featured in this mulit-award winning feature."

Konacno jedan skroz ozbiljan rad na temu 21.12.2012. Na prvom mestu tu je naravno tumacenje majanskog kalendara, znaci do detalja je objashnjeno sta ce tacno da se dogodi na nebu tog dana, i kako su Maje to protumacile. Zatim ono sto ce nekima biti mozda jos zanimljivije, Vedski kalendar, Kali Juga, pa prelazak u doba Vodolije, naucni dokazi o pomeranju polova i mogucnost da polovi skroz zamene strane, i kakav uticaj na to bi mogle da imaju eksplozije na Suncu. Zatim jedna skroz zanimljiva teorija da se i nase sunce nalazi "zarobljeno" u orbiti druge, za sad nama nepoznatom zvezde, jer takve pojave su vec primecene shirom nama vidljivog dela univerzuma, da se dve zvezde tako okrecu jedna oko druge, e sad kako se okrecu, kako menjaju brzine, to je isto jako, jako zanimljivo. Odlican film, upravo ono sto smo cekali posle gomile povrsnih i bombasticnih TV dokumentaraca, jer daje ozbiljne naucne odgovore na mnoga pitanja, i Majanska kultura jer bas lepo prikazana, svi ti spomenici i hramovi shirom Meksika i mozda i najbitniji detalj : kakav uticaj su odigrali psihodelici na celu tu pricu. Ko je makar i samo jednom nogom zakoracio na "ONU STRANU" zna tacno o cemu pricam, Vishnu mi je svedok. Da li cemo svi umreti kako je Saint Eric Cartman reko u svojoj poslanici napacenoj raji, ili ce zapravo doci do totalne promena sistema vrednosti, i ulaska u tzv. Zlatno Doba ? Razne eminentne face u ovom filmu imaju razlicite poglede na tu temu, ali ono sto je svima zajednicko je stav da nece doci ni do kakve apokalipse u hriscanskom ili kojem vec smislu, mada neki od nas bi iskreno voleli da dozive takav jedan multimedijalni dogadjaj, pa makar i zaginuli medju prvima. I malo je reci da sam odusevljen ovim dokumentarcem, jer moj neki stav je bio, kao iz fazona, ko ce docekati jbga tu 2012-tu, al' evo - primiche se bogme lagano, i zaista vredi sacekati jos te 4 godinice pa makar se nista i ne dogodilo - jer bice to jaaako zanimljivi dani, jer setite se samo onog uzbudjenja, onog izuzetnog thrilla povodom poslednjeg pomracenja sunca, awesome je bilo - zar ne ? A i ove sledece 4 godine ce biti takodje jako interesantne, jer kad Obama vise ne bude sa nama bice logicno da prvi Srbin postane predsednik SAD, znaci Amerika na ivici propasti, Rusija na rubu znanosti, konacni ulazak Bugara u Sofiju tj. izliv serotonina u ovo malo duse/mozga, ekonomska kriza u kojoj mi naravno po obicaju necemo ucestvovati, povratak Sheshelja iz Haga with a vengeance, pregrst novih, BOLJIH epizoda South Parka, 2 nova filma Joon-ho Bonga sa posebnim osvrtom na "Mother", zatim Paradise Lost 3, Panzram by Borowsky, i konacno - at last but not at least - JA nalazim sebi srodnu dusu posle visegodishnjeg traganja po bespucima i gudurama svoje mracne sobe pa makar to bilo i moje podivljalo mache Skviki, i na kraju zavestavam moshti Dzou Kolemanu za njegov ODDITORIUM muzej. Fractals: Hunting the Hidden Dimension (2008)

Svi smo čuli za fraktale i sigurno nebrojeno puta videli kako oni izgledaju, evo ja čak imam jednog i na desktopu, ali šta su zapravo fraktali, to nisam baš siguran da svi znamo. Npr. drvo je možda najbolji primer, jer drvo je zapravo fraktal, naime, svaka grana je zapravo umanjena replika glavnog stabla, i tako dalje do najsitnijih grančica, takođe fraktale možemo videti i na Hindu hramovima, dakle jako zanimljiv dokumentarac, dokaz da beskonačno ipak postoji, i ja bih to odma' primenio na naš univerzum, za koji naučnici tvrde da i pored toga što je nezamislivo veliki, ipak ima svoj početak i kraj, a ja mislim da nema, jer ako bi po istom principu kao i fraktale, zumirali noćno nebo nekim ultra-teleskopom do beskonačno, svaki put bi dobili istu sliku, tj. zvezde svuda unaokolo. Naravno, ovo su neka moja lična lupetanja, ali ako su sve oko nas u prirodi fraktali, i ako smo i mi sami sačinjeni od fraktala, zašto to ne bi bio i svemir koji nas okružuje ?

"Chances are you've seen one and you just didn't realize it. Fractals are most recognized as a series of circular shapes with a border surrounded by jagged "tail-like" objects. NOVA's episode, "Fractals: Hunting the Hidden Dimension" is a quite interesting fifty minute look at the topic. The program, aimed at the average viewer does a fine job of explaining the background of fractals, first by beginning with the story of Pixar co-founder, Loren Carpenter's work at Boeing, developing 3D terrain from scratch using fractals. From there the program starts at the beginning with an introduction to Benoit Mandelbrot and his revolutionary work. The explanations are full of solid factual information but never talk above the level of a viewer who has some understanding of basic mathematical principles. Once the concept is presented the program spends the rest of the time showing how prevalent the fractal is in life.

For a program about a mathematical concept, "Fractals" is very engaging, showing how the process was applied to special effects as far back as the Genesis planet from "Star Trek II" all the way to the spectacular finale on Mustafar in "Star Wars: Episode III." I found myself astonished at how fractals were the source of the lava in constant motion and action during the Obi-Wan/Anakin fight. What is more amazing is when the program delves into practical applications such as cell phone antennas, and eventually the human body.

For the average person who enjoys watching NOVA or other science related programs, even on a sporadic basis, "Fractals" will prove to be a very worthwhile experience. The program is well produced, integrating talking head interviews (including some with Mandelbrot himself) with standard "in the field" footage. The structure of the program is very logical and never finds itself jumping around without direction. In simplest terms, this is a program as elegant as the designs it focuses on."

"JFK. O.J. Simpson. Sid Vicious. Nicholas and Alexandra. These are some of the most celebrated cases in the history of forensic pathology - and Dr. Michael Baden has had a hand in every one of them.

John F. KennedyIn 1977, Congress appointed the Congressional Select Committee on Assassinations to investigate the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Dr. Baden was in charge of the forensic-pathology investigation, assembling a panel to review autopsy reports, photographs, X-rays, and clothing. As he reported before Congress, no forensic pathologist has ever examined the body of the President. Instead, Washington hospital pathologists who had no training or experience in gunshot wounds bungled what was an "incomplete" autopsy, mistaking an entrance wound for an exit one, and placing the fatal head wound four inches lower than it was. In addition, photos were not done by a professional, the bullet track was not traced, and the notes were re-copied. After examining the scars on John Connally and sending bullet fragments found on the stretcher to a lab, Baden testified there had been one shooter: Lee Harvey Oswald.

O.J. Simpson
On June 13, 1994, one day after the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, Baden arrived at the home of Robert Kardashian, where O.J. Simpson was in seclusion. Examining the suspect, Baden found no marks of a struggle, and noted that Simpson had a healing cut on one hand. Baden did feel Simpson was suicidal, and shortly before police arrived, Simpson disappeared in what was to become the "Bronco chase." Later, at the trial, Baden made several points for the defense, asserting that the crime scene had been contaminated (detectives' bloody shoeprints were everywhere), that the time of death could not be determined (the bodies had been out in the open too long), and that Nicole's body was never viewed at the scene by a medical examiner. Instead, it was flipped over and removed to the morgue, washed (eliminating blood-drop evidence), and left for two days before the autopsy. These and other mistakes doomed the prosecution. Baden's theory is that two men were involved in the murders.

The Romanov Royal FamilyAfter ruling Russia for 300 years, the Romanov royal family disappeared on July 18, 1918, thought to have been executed by Bolsheviks. For 70 years, myths persisted about what happened to Tsar Nicolas, his wife Alexandria, and their five children. Then, in 1991, nine skeletons were discovered in Siberia. A year later, Baden and a team of scientists traveled to Russia to examine the remains. The bodies had been shot, and bullets found in one corpse were consistent to those used in 1918. After estimating the height and weight and checking teeth, the bodies were confirmed to be those of the Romanovs and their servants - except for Anastasia and Alexi, the two youngest children. For years, a woman named Anna Anderson had claimed to be Anastasia, but she was cremated upon her death in 1984. However, DNA from an appendix she had removed confirmed that Anna was not a royal. The real Romanovs were buried in St. Petersburg in 1998 - but two crypts (for Anastasia and Alexi) remain empty.

Sid Vicious
A member of one of the most influential punk bands of the 1970s, the Sex Pistols, Sid Vicious epitomized the excess and rage of that era. At 19, he met Nancy Spungen, who became the most important person in his life. After the band broke up in 1978, Sid and Nancy checked into NYC's Chelsea Hotel and embarked on a downward spiral of sex and drugs. One morning in October, police found Nancy's crumpled body in the bathroom, stabbed in the abdomen. Although Sid said that she had committed suicide, Baden, then the NYC medical examiner, saw no "hesitation" wounds (testing the blade before inserting it) and noted that the blade had been withdrawn. He classified Nancy's death as a homicide, and Sid was arrested. For four months, Sid was drug-free in Riker's Island. But in February 1979, after his mother posted $50,000 bail, he attended a party celebrating his release - and 13 hours later he was dead. Baden concluded he died from an overdose of potent heroin that was too strong for him to tolerate after his withdrawal. In a factoid, we learn that Sid's mother, also an addict, had bought the heroin that killed her son. On September 6, 1996, she committed suicide with a heroin overdose.

9/11 RespondersOn September 11, 2001, Frank Maisano of the NYPD was one of the first responders to the tragedy at the WTC. Like others, who "did what we were told," he inhaled an excess of ash at the site. Three and a half years later, Maisano collapsed while chasing a suspect, and was forced to take early retirement despite just passing his sergeant's test. Meeting with Baden, this once-athletic young man is told he has pulmonary fibrosis, scar tissue on his lungs that may require a transplant. "It's one thing going into a job where you see the perp," says Frank. On 9/11, "we were unprepared." Another first responder, James Zadroga, died in 2006; analyses of his lungs matched particles with those present at Ground Zero. According to Baden, it is "the first death of a responder that is directly linked to Ground Zero by the autopsy findings."

Mislim, ko da je sramota reći, volim da kopam po leševima, to je jače od mene, treba biti iskren jebiga, jer ne može baš svako da bude patolog, samo osoba koja to zaista voli da radi, pa jasno. Ovde su predstavljene 4 lekcije iz autopsije, tako da ukoliko se na ovaj ili onaj način dokopate nekog leša, možete sve to da isprobate i u kućnim uslovima, znači ovo mu dođe ko neki gistro-tutorijal za početnike.
